There's dozens and dozens of characters, but here are the important ones: The first time I saw this, I thought he was screaming "boob" instead of "Bob." Would you blame me? even though Sil'lice had said before that her sister Snadhya was childless, so how the hell did she know she had a daughter? Let alone that Kalki even existed? More examples are covered in the Writing section. what?" was during the prologue was when one of the Nidraa'chal conspirators was revealed to be Kalki, Snadhya's daughter. Very early on, my first time where I went "Wait. The big underlying problem is that the story is so complex that it falls apart when you start applying some thought to it. I probably wouldn't have been able to keep track of anything had the website not included a whole wiki dedicated to the comic.īut that's not what stuck out to me as the biggest problem. They only start shortening these names later in the book, probably when the writer himself got tired of it. If you found it hard to keep all the Stark brothers straight the first time you watched the show, you'll likely have a trouble with the Imperial family, the name of the conspiracy, even the city's name (Why is it that fantasy authors always insist on overloading readers with way too many made-up names right out of the starting gate? You gotta ease them into it!). The prologue didn't inspire much confidence, since it has the exact same problems Game of Thrones has, only worse we get a massive infodump in the beginning, followed by the backstory, and we're introduced to a whole bunch of characters who aren't the protagonist with confusing names. So long as you're paying attention, you may find yourself wondering what it doesn't make any sense. I'll probably get some hate for this review since Drowtales has turned into this crazy media empire with a huge following, but I'm of the opinion that this is one of those comics that you may not see the problems right away if you only read it every time it updates. Over time, though, I started to peel back the layers and found it to be a more complex mess than one might initially assume. Curious, I decided to start reading it myself, and at first, I thought it was ok, although very heavy on the exposition and with bad pacing. This was before they had written an entire article about the comic they do have a pretty strong pro-dwarf, anti-elf bias, but that hasn't effected my own review of the comic. That's when I changed from, "I am still being entertained by this, and the art is undeniably pleasing even though the artist can't write and I want to punch him in the nose every time he tries" to "I loathe this, I will never read this shit again, the artist is a piece of shit. When I was browsing 1d4chan, I saw a picture with a caption beneath complaining about Drowtales. I only stopped reading it when McEldowney implied that he was going to strike one of his very few likable characters by having her fetal child turn into a cockroach. I think that's because they've never read a comic by Brooke McEldowney). I am charmed as fuck at the current A3G storyline.Īnother example of the nebulousness of "like" and "dislike" is how I used to read Pibgorn pretty much every day, yet I loathe the artist that creates it and his worldview.
I think it's probably a divide more along the lines of, "people who take enough entertainment from the comic to read it every time it's posted" and "people who never read it or the comments about it." "Like" and "don't like" feel pretty irrelevant when both groups are reading every single comic.įor example, a lot of us laugh pretty roundly at Apartment 3g, but I don't think anyone posts the comic out of dislike. I don't really see a more significant difference than that. I think it's less "people who like it" and "People who obsessively hate it"Īnd more people who admit they like it, and people who don't.
You can consider it just another way to enjoy a comic. I didn't say those people weren't allowed to do that, did I? I just said don't let it bother you. There are people who religiously read every DoA just so they can have something rude to say about it. There are some of us who are critical of DOA I should warn you that there are some people who claim to hate every DOA that comes out, but don't let it bother you. Yes, we talk about any webcomic that we're interested in, and a few of us enjoy DOA. Do you talk about any webcomic in here? I haven't visited these penny arcade parts, but was looking for place to discus dumbing of age if anyone around here reads it?
